Qualifications for the Human Rights Assessment Group Professionals
Dr. Gary Krieger
Dr. Krieger has participated in multiple public health evaluations, health impact assessments and risk assessments in the U.S and overseas. He has co-authored, edited and published two editions of a large textbook on medical toxicology of hazardous materials. For the National Safety Council, he edited the environmental practice book and co-edited the text on occupational health--in addition to co-editing three occupational safety and health books. He was guest editor for the Medical Clinics of North America and lead author for the International Finance Corporation’s “Health Impact Assessment” Toolkit and Good Practice Notes related to “Community Health Performance Standards (No.4).” Dr. Krieger is certified in Toxicology, Occupational Medicine, Internal Medicine and has a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (DTM&H) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is certified in toxicology, occupational medicine and internal medicine.
Dr. Laurence Goldman
Dr. Goldman is a senior social scientist/anthropologist with almost 15 years experience consulting with petroleum resources developers on compliance with environmental regulations, indigenous worker training, and socio-economic impact analysis. He has managed research teams for four different major oil companies in the Pacific, conducting archaeological and environmental research, social impact assessment and monitoring, social mapping studies, as well as writing social action and resettlement plans, cultural awareness manuals and compliance reports for international banking institutions. Prior to his consulting work, Dr. Goldman was a full-time academic at the University of Queensland, where he researched and taught the anthropological aspects of law and resource development. Dr. Goldman holds both a B.Sc. and Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of London.
Mark Wielga
Mr. Wielga has over 20 years direct experience promoting human rights, both in litigating complex cases involving environmental and natural resource issues. He has also advised companies and regulators around the world on both developing and complying with regulatory processes, and has trainedmultinational corporations on creating programs for doing health impact assessments. He is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Denver College of Law. He received his B.A. from St. Johns College and his J.D. from the University of Chicago School of Law.
Elizabeth D. Wise
Elizabeth Wise has seven years experience involved in helping multinational companies assess their policies and improve their relationships with local communities, activists, and the media. Before she began work as a public relations consultant, she spent fifteen years as a journalist, covering civil wars in Ethiopia and Sudan, as well as the establishment of a new government in the weeks after Rwanda’s civil war and genocide. Other reporting assignments focused on global trade policy, including trade issues between industrialized and developing nations. She holds a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.S. from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
