NewFields Team Uncovers a Rare Artifact

During a federally required biological clearance survey prior to a scheduled production blast, the NewFields Environmental Engineering Team in Las Vegas, led by Andy Butsavich, located an intact piece of Native American pottery tucked deep inside a rock amongst a large outcropping. Not only did Andy’s team protect the pottery that has subsequently been dated between 200-600 years old, but Andy successfully coordinated the swift consultation with archaeologists from the National Park Service to remove the article causing only a minor delay to construction.

The team is responsible for the environmental compliance and monitoring of the I-11 Boulder City Bypass located outside of Las Vegas near Boulder City, Nevada. We are extremely proud of their efforts to protect such a rare artifact that could have been destroyed. (*pictured is a National Park Service Archaeologist)

NewFields Engineering and Environmental service team and Princeton PODs are providing consultation for remediation of groundwater NAPL at a railroad switch yard site in southeast Texas situated on a former petroleum refinery. In addition to design and construction management, NewFields will be commencing remedial investigations to characterize and delineate the remaining extent of groundwater NAPL and develop remedial alternatives to optimize NAPL mass removal toward meeting TCEQ Risk-Based NAPL Management guidance.

Newfields’ report on seagrass response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill is available on the Marine Ecology Progress Series (MEPS) website. The report outlines the collaborative effort included individuals from NewFields, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the United States Geological Survey and investigated impacted seagrass beds in the Chandeleur Islands. The habitat was assessed for chemicals related to the oil within sediments and plant tissues as well as plant health and diversity.
