Senior Soil and Agricultural Scientist
Ms. Heilmann is a Senior Soil and Agricultural Scientist with NewFields. She holds a B.S. in Soil Science with minors in Viticulture and Water Science-Irrigation from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, in addition to her certifications as a Certified Professional Soil Scientist (CPSS) and Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC). Ms. Heilmann has over 10 years of experience in environmental, agricultural and water resource consulting and project management. Her technical skills include developing innovative solutions and approaches for addressing challenges associated with irrigated agricultural production, salinity management, and land stabilization. Ms. Heilmann’s expertise includes large-scale land management and classification, agricultural systems, salinity and nutrient management, soil-plant-water interactions (including hydrologic, salt, and nutrient balance modeling), greenhouse gas flux assessment, land stabilization and dust mitigation in arid, saline soil environments, water conservation and water resource management, soil reclamation, and land application of wastewater and solid wastes. Ms. Heilmann has experience managing complex project teams that involve a broad array of stakeholders, dynamic policy and environmental drivers, legal issues, and regulatory negotiations. She is currently NewFields’ senior air quality project manager for the large-scale Owens Lake Dust Mitigation Program, which has historically been one of the largest particulate matter emission sources in the world.
