CAWG Greenhouse Gas Agricultural Overview
NewFields worked with the California Association of Winegrape Growers (CAWG) to assess the impacts of emerging climate change policy on the winegrape industry and on agriculture in general. NewFields prepared a publication and presentation for CAWG communications that provided the background on emerging cap and trade programs. Our staff summarized scientific issues and agriculture’s role relative to existing and developing climate regulations and governmental policies, including California’s Appropriation Bill 32, the Western Climate Initiative, pending federal legislation and international Kyoto Protocol. This condensed product provided CAWG with the background they needed to assess the potential impacts of policies on agricultural operations and the potential opportunities that may exist to proactively position as part of a solution.
